Saunas in the Mountains

15/09/2020

In this article “Saunas in the Mountains”, I list some of the most interesting saunas, hotels, igloo villages and mountain lodges. I was positively surprised how many mountain saunas I found. This article introduces six interesting mountain saunas.

Saunas in the mountains

Saunas in the mountains

There are saunas in the strangest places. So, it is no wonder that saunas can also be found at the tops of mountains. Mountains are dear to me (I live in the mountains myself), so I was happy to find so many great places to share with you!

In addition to listing the saunas, I will also tell you their prices, whether the use of the sauna has to be paid for separately or whether it is included in the nightly rate. I will also list at what height is the sauna located, is there anything else interesting in the place, such as a jacuzzi, etc.

What they all have in common is that the views from the sauna window or outside the sauna are breathtakingly beautiful.

1. Italy, Dolomites

I saw on Facebook that my friend had visited the Dolomites. To my surprise, their accommodation had a barrel sauna with a Harvia wood stove! The place looked absolutely stunning and the sauna was in an amazing location.

The place is called Rifugo Lagazuoi and the sauna costs € 20. It must be booked separately. The booking includes 45 minutes of sauna, bathrobe and water shower. Oh, I would love to go there to hike, sauna and enjoy the scenery!

Day hikers can also enjoy the sauna, it just needs to be booked in advance.

I read in a blog post that in 2018, the barrel sauna got damaged as a result of a storm. As far as I could tell, and based on the pictures, a new barrel sauna has been since installed. It is possible to book the sauna online. Hopefully this time they have put the sauna firmly on the ground.

The sauna is located at 2752 meters

Price per night: From 96 € / 2 person / night

Sauna: 20 € / person (it is worth booking in advance)

2. Austria, Tirol

Berghaus Sonnwendjoch is located in Tyrol, Austria, at an altitude of about 1800 meters. It offers accommodation, a sauna, a cold pool, stunning views and the opportunity to do CrossFit training. So basically, it offers everything I like!

There is no road to Berghaus, so you have to hike or book a ride there. Unfortunately, the place is only open during the summer.

The venue is run by Tyrolean Warriors, a CrossFit company. You can also follow them on Instagram: tyroleanwarriors

The scenery is beautiful. I would be happy to train there!

The sauna is located at 1770 meters

Price per night: + sauna and training: 139 € / person / night

Berghaus accommodates: 8 + 4 people

3. Germany, Zugspitze

The Zugspitze is the highest mountain in Germany (2962m) and in winter an igloo village is built on the top of the mountain out of snow and ice. You can sleep in the igloo, take a sauna in the barrel sauna and enjoy the hot tub. Igloo village is open from late December to mid-April.

Igloo village offers different price accommodation packages for both private and groups, like work groups, etc.

Iglu-Dorf has similar locations elsewhere in Central Europe, in Austria and Switzerland. More information can be found on the website.

The sauna is located at 2600 meters

Price per night: From 129 € / person / night (Note the price does not include the lift ticket).

Iglu-Dorf accommodates 46 people

4. Canada, Pemberton

Whitecap is located in Pemberton, British Columbia, 150 km north of Vancouver. The place can only be reached by helicopter. I’ve seen on Instagram that they have a sauna in the middle of the mountain lake headland. Real wooden sauna!

There is one bigger cottage for about 20 people, a sauna building for six people, and three yurts that can accommodate a total of 12 people. The place is accessible in both summer and winter.

The sauna is located in 2013 meters

Price per night for 4 nights: From 1925 CAD / person

Whitecap accommodates 22 people

5. Norway, Eldmølla

In the Norwegian mountains, 230 km north of Oslo, there is also another beautiful mountain sauna. It was built in collaboration with students and, of course, a few Finns have also been involved in building and planning. It is possible to rent a sauna for private use and the view is absolutely spectacular.

The sauna is built on the Lerhol farm. Many hiking trails run close to the sauna. In summer you can hike, in winter you can ski or climb a frozen waterfall. Eldmolla’s location offers gorgeous views of the Vang and Valdres mountains.

What is special about the sauna is that it is built on the edge of a cliff and above the waterfall and the river Drosja.

There are a few rules in the sauna:

  • Bring 2 towels, one to sit on and one to dry yourself.
  • Only people sitting on the upper benches can determine when to throw steam.
  • You are not allowed to take a sauna if you are drunk.
  • Children under the age of 10 are not allowed in the sauna.
  • Clean your mess.
  • Make sure the water hose is removed from the Djosja after use.
  • Use of the sauna at your own risk.
  • Be considerate and kind.
  • Nudity is mandatory. It can make everyday life more interesting.

The sauna is located at the top of Eldmølla Mountain at an altitude of 922 meters, and seats 5-6 people. Reservations can be made by phone or email at least 2 days before the desired date. The sauna can be rented for 4 hours at a time.

The rental covers experience, maintenance, firewood and water.

The sauna is located at 922 meters

Sauna rental: 600 NOK/ 60€ / 4h / max 6 person

6. Austria, Silvretta Montafon

It is possible to stay overnight in an igloo, enjoy a barrel sauna and beautiful landscape in Austria, too. The package includes a guide, fondue, 2 drinks, breakfast and a ticket for the lift. Choose between sleeping in an igloo or an igloo-glamping room with great mountain views.

The sauna is located over 2000 meters

Price: From 153 € / person / night

Silvretta Montafon accommodates 22 people

The article Saunas in the Mountains introduced six saunas with spectacular views. They are located in Austria, Italy, Germany, Canada and Norway.

I really hope that this article Saunas in the Mountains will be useful for you when planning your next trip. I can only dream of visiting these saunas at the moment. Hopefully though, I will be able to see at least some of them live someday.

How to order ecological sauna products

Are organic, ecological and natural raw materials important to you? Do you want to know what you are putting on your skin? And also, what goes down the drain?

Climate change is a fact that cannot be overcome if we do not change our old ways. We need to work together to stop climate change.

What can one person do? Well, quite a lot actually. When one person sets a good example then the others follow suit. Or so I like to think.

What are you willing to do for the well-being of nature and the planet?

Are you interested in protecting the environment and nature?

Do you want to breathe in the fresh air and go for a swim in clean waters? If the answer is yes, then we must act today.

Biodegradable packaging already exists and is used in some natural cosmetics. Unfortunately, these packaging materials cost too much for small businesses. Therefore, we should invest and put pressure on the use and production of biodegradable packaging materials.

Microplastics, you’ve probably heard of them too. Microplastics are harmful to humans and nature. We do not need them in our bodies or in the nature.

In the article “How to order ecological sauna products”, I present a few small businesses that specialize in sauna products. They try to help save the planet, even though it sometimes feels difficult.

Some of them use biodegradable packaging, wrappers and papers. They all have tried to come up with alternatives for plastic.

These businesses have an interest in natural herbs and their healing powers. I also believe that nature has a cure for many ailments. No unnatural chemicals are needed.

The purity of the products is at the heart of all these businesses. There is nothing “unnecessary” in the products. Nothing that is harmful to humans or nature. Some may contain preservatives. This is so you can enjoy the products for longer.

How to order ecological sauna products

All these businesses value:

  • Environment
  • Nature
  • Fresh air
  • Clean water
  • Pure, natural raw materials

In this article, I have listed the best places for ecological sauna products.
