The Blog – for the love of sauna

09/08/2019

That’s where the idea came from …

The idea for the blog first came up to me when I started thinking about sauna from the perspective of a Finn living abroad. I really love sauna and everything that comes with it and I wanted to share my thoughts.

the blog for the love of sauna

It is important to bear in mind that for us Finns, sauna is in our blood. For hundreds of years, sauna was the centre of all life in Finland; people were born in the sauna, they were treated for illnesses in the sauna, they even died in the sauna.

Till this day, saunas are a major part of our culture and identity. They are places of relaxation, meditation and comfort. At the same time, we make friends, have deep conversations and even negotiate business deals in the sauna. Saunas are a wonderful part of our heritage that not enough many people know about. I hope my blog will help change that!

Can you guess where I got the idea for the blog?

You probably guessed it, in a sauna, of course. I was in the sauna with my friend at Kempten’s CamboMare and I just suddenly got this crazy idea (thank you to my friend for the inspiration). For a week I couldn’t think about anything else; ideas, pictures and saunas just flooded my mind.

There was nothing similar to what I was wanted to create, so I thought “let’s get on with it“!

In my opinion, we Finns, and especially we expatriate Finns, have a special role in advancing Finnish sauna and sauna culture. We are important advocates for sauna and we have to keep on sharing the sauna message.

That includes telling about the versatility of saunas and guiding foreigners to sauna “right”. I put that word right in quotation marks because there isn’t one right way to do things.

There are as many right ways as there are people.

In this blog I will discuss these things:

  • Different saunas in Finland and abroad.
  • Sauna products, fragrances and textiles.
  • How to build/order a sauna when living abroad.
  • How to properly take care of your sauna.
  • Stories about sauna cultures.
  • And everything else related to sauna!

By writing this blog, I want to bring the Finnish sauna to the world’s attention and be an Ambassador of the Finnish Sauna.

The Blog – for the love of sauna!
