5 ways to build a sauna

05/05/2020

5 ways to build a sauna-article focuses on the different ways you can order or build a Finnish sauna. Many Finns who live abroad dream about having a sauna at home.

The local sauna culture is often not what they are used to. It is either very different, or it does not exist at all. For the mental and physical well-being of an expatriate Finn, sauna is essential. A Finn cannot live without sauna.

5 ways to build a sauna

Finnish Facebook groups often have tips on where to find a builder for your sauna and how to start the entire project. Be active and search information on the internet and ask advice from people who have already built saunas.

Maybe my article is the first step and inspiration for your own sauna project!

5 ways to build a sauna

5 different ways to build a sauna

1. Buy wood from a local limber store

Buy or order wood from a local timber store or order wood from Finland. Build a sauna yourself or hire a local builder. This way, you can have a sauna according to your own measurements and wishes.

You can find Finnish sauna stoves in most countries, or you can always order one from Finland. The stove gets delivered directly to your home address.

2. Order timber from Finland

Order pre-sawn panels and benches from Finland. You can also buy packages that include a heater, stones and other sauna products. You can build the sauna yourself or find a local carpenter to build it according to the instructions. You can also hire a builder from Finland, there are plenty skilled sauna builders who work internationally.

3. The sauna wagon -mobile sauna

This is by far the easiest way to have your own sauna. Place an order for your mobile sauna, wait patiently for a few months and pick it up from the nearest port. Then you just park it in your own yard or wherever you want. Easy! The best thing about a mobile sauna is that it is mobile. You can take it with you wherever you go, and it is easy to transport if or when you move house.

Note! Don’t forget vehicle checkups and insurances if you travel with your mobile sauna.

4. Garden Sauna

It is also possible to order outdoor saunas for your garden. There are a few companies that operate on a turnkey basis in Finland. All you have to do is the groundwork. You receive

clear instructions for the groundwork but if building is not your thing, you can always hire a local construction worker to help you.

Note! Costs for the sauna depend on the container shipping rates

5. Bathroom Sauna

If your bathroom has enough space to accommodate a small sauna, then why not order a bathroom sauna? The installation does not take long. The smallest saunas have space for two people and the small size allows the sauna to be installed even to a tight place.

The sauna is delivered complete, you only need a few tools to finish the job. Remember that only an electrician should do electrical work.

Bathroom sauna has no floor and is not screwed to the walls in any way, so it can be easily taken out when you move.

If you do not own the building you live in, make sure to ask if having a sauna in the bathroom is allowed.

This method is suitable for those who do not have a lot of experience with building or construction.

I hope this article on five ways to build a sauna was helpful to you. It is possible to order or build a Finnish sauna, no matter where you live. You don’t have to be a builder or know how to build a sauna yourself. Of course, doing things yourself does help keep the costs lower.

Cosmetologist’s tips for taking a sauna

28/04/2020

In today’s post: Cosmetologist’s tips for taking a sauna, I will share with you the best sauna skin care tips from a beautician. There are some things we all should be aware of, so let’s go through them:

When should I do my beauty and skin care treatments?

Can I wear a face mask to sauna?

How should I treat my skin after sauna?

Cosmetologist’s tips for taking a sauna

Cosmetologist’s tips for sauna

Advantages of sauna:

  • Increases metabolism
  • Increases blood circulation
  • Relaxes

Disadvantages of sauna:

  • Cold-hot fluctuations increase the risk of getting couperose.
  • For couperose skin, taking a sauna can be harmful, as heat can intensify the symptoms.

Sauna and skin care

  • Be sure to clean your face properly before taking a sauna.
  • Remove any dirt, make up or product from your face as they may cause pimples or skin irritation.

Sauna and facial peels

  • Use a facial peel before you put on the mask, you can do this in the sauna.
  • The purpose of exfoliating and peeling is to remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin thus making the skin more receptive. Exfoliation also brightens the skin.

Sauna and face masks

  • If you really want to treat yourself, you should include a face mask to your sauna skin care routine. After taking a sauna, your skin is more receptive to the treatment, because the skin pores are enlarged due to the heat.
  • Putting a facemask on after the sauna makes the mask work most effectively.
  • However, you can also wear the face mask to sauna if you want.
  • Make sure you choose the right face mask for your skin type.

After sauna

  • You can use your normal skincare products.
  • As the skin is very receptive, make sure you moisturize every time you have taken a sauna.

In conclusion, cosmetologist’s tip is that you can combine skin care, peels and masks with your sauna-routine. Taking a sauna is great for your skin, unless you have couperose skin.

Then you should be careful with the temperature fluctuations. Sauna is a great place to do your everyday skin care but remember to book a professional treatment from a beautician or cosmetologists every once in a while.

I got my tips for taking a sauna from cosmetologist Laura Porkka from the Kotka Cosmetics Center (Finland).
