Kaurilan Sauna cosmetic products

15/08/2023

Have you already heard about Kaurilan Sauna cosmetic products? Kaurilan Sauna cosmetic products are handmade in Helsinki. Kaurila Sauna was originally a public sauna in Meilahti, Helsinki, near Seurasaari. In 2020, the public sauna closed its doors.

Kaurilan Sauna

The birth of Kaurilan Sauna

Kaurila Sauna’s roots are originally in North Karelia. The company’s main building was moved to Meilahti in the early 90s. The main building was originally the Kaurila railway station, built as early as 1894.

Around the same time, a sauna building from Tuusula was moved to the plot. This was later named Kaurilan Sauna when it was opened as a public sauna.

Today, the buildings are in private use.

The Story of Kaurilan Sauna

Kaurilan Sauna was opened in 2009 as a public sauna. Saara Heikkinen, the founder of the sauna, wanted to offer her customers an authentic Finnish sauna experience with gentle and natural products. When she couldn’t find suitable products, she started making them herself.

Initially, she sewed linen towels for saunas, and as time passed, many customers wanted to buy them.

She also made soaps, shampoos and candles. The sauna users could test the products, and she developed and adjusted them according to customers’ wishes. Customers fell in love with the products and wanted to buy them as gifts for their friends. This is how Kaurila Sauna’s excellent cosmetic products were born.

At first, Saara sold products in her sauna or, for example, during Christmas at the market in Helsinki. Many companies wanted to resale her products, and in 2017, an online store was opened. In 2019, Saara opened the Kaurila Sauna store in Munkkiniemi, where many of her wonderful sauna products are on sale.

Kaurila Sauna’s cosmetic products are still handmade in Helsinki’s Pitäjänmäki. Depending on the season, Saara has 5-10 employees.

Kaurilan Sauna cosmetic products

Saara has a strong vision of offering only cosmetic products made from clean and responsible raw materials. Many people with sensitive skin or those sensitive to smells find it challenging to find products that work for them. Kaurila Sauna’s products include several fragrance-free products.

All Kaurilan Sauna cosmetic products are certified natural cosmetics. The products have not been tested on animals and are made by hand in Finland, in Helsinki’s Pitäjänmäki. Most of Kaurila Sauna’s cosmetic products are vegan. In addition, the selection includes several plastic-free and zero-waste products. All deodorants are alcohol-free and aluminium-free.

Body butter

Kaurila Sauna’s body butter has been awarded as one of the best natural cosmetic products in 2022.

“Homemade, charmingly scented body butter contains rosehip, jojoba and argan oil. Despite its rich, creamy texture, the cream absorbs into the skin in an instant, does not stick, and leaves the body incredibly soft. It’s perfect for skin dried by the sun, water games and saunas.” (Kauneus&Terveys Magazine 7/2022 – Best Body Cream)

Kaurila’s sauna body butter selections include charming lavender, refreshing rosemary, wonderful lemongrass, cheerful peppermint, lovely alpine rose and sunny orange.

Deo creams

Deo creams are made from natural ingredients and do not contain alcohol, aluminium or dyes. Deo creams are perfect for sensitive skin and keep unpleasant smells away.

The deodorant is made with two different recipes: beeswax and vegan almond wax.

Essential oils give deo creams beautiful scents or scent combinations.

Lemongrass, lemon & tea tree, eucalyptus & lime, fennel & peppermint, coriander & lime, black pepper, lavender, geranium, orange blossom, rosemary, alpine rose, lemon & cypress, and unscented are available as vegan.

The ones made from beeswax are lemongrass, lemon & tea tree, eucalyptus & lime, fennel & peppermint, coriander & lime, black pepper, lavender, geranium, orange blossom, rosemary, rhododendron and unscented.

What’s new are deo creams that are smaller and more solid in composition. Deo creams do not run even in higher temperatures.

These are available in: Alpine rose, orange blossom, peppermint, lemon & tea tree, and lemongrass.

Shampoo bars

Selected high-quality vegetable oils have been used in the production of the shampoos. Bar shampoos do not contain sulfates, silicone or parabens. Bar shampoos are great for people with sensitive skin, fragrances and allergies.

Shampoo bars are also vegan.

Shampoo bars are long-lasting and reduce packaging materials in the bathroom. You can choose between cardboard or metal packaging.

These products can be used by everyone, from babies to adults.

Shampoo bars are hygienic if you let them dry between uses.
Shampoo bars are easy to take to the swimming pool, the gym, on a trip, or a plane. The packaging is light, and you don’t have to worry about something spilling on the bottom of the bag.

Here’s how to use the bar shampoo:

  • Wet your hair well.
  • Comb your hair lightly with a piece of shampoo,
  • after that, lather the shampoo in your hair.
  • The shampoo bar lathers easily, and you can choose the amount of shampoo according to how dirty your hair is.
  • Rinse thoroughly.
  • There are nine different shampoo bars in Kaurila Sauna’s selection: Blackcurrant, apricot, avocado, oat, hemp, olive, evening primrose, sunflower and camelina.

Kaurilan Sauna rose soap

Kaurila Sauna’s salt soaps and exfoliating sand soaps are long-lasting and gentle on your skin.

Salt soaps are perfect for dry winter or atopic skin; you can wash the whole body and face with them.

High-quality vegetable oils and salt have been used in their production. Salt soaps are fragrance-free, dye-free and vegan products.

Use of salt soap:

  • Moisturize hands and skin; rub the soap into your hands and skin.
  • Rinse with plenty of water.
  • After use, let the salt soap dry on the soap tray. This way, it remains hygienic.
  • Kaurila Sauna’s selection includes five different salt soaps: Sea salt, hemp salt, and camelina, which are suitable for the whole body. Rose salt and clay salt soap are especially suitable for the face, washing the beard and shaving.

Lace candles

Kaurila Sauna’s vegan lace candles are made of olive-based eco-stearin. They burn with a large, steady flame at about half a centimetre per hour.

When lit, a wonderfully delicate and fragile lace edging forms on the candles. Large or small candles are available. The big lace candle burns for about 60 hours. A small lace candle burns for about 20 hours.

Saara and I have a lot in common because everything we do is done out of love for the sauna. Here in Germany, I organize Finnish sauna evenings that include clean and ecological sauna products.

It was easy for me to put these products on sale in my online store, and it’s lovely that I can let my customers try them out in Finnish sauna evenings as well.

I hope this “Kaurila Sauna cosmetic products” article helps you find information about Kaurila Sauna products and where to order them.

In the Sauna Shop of the World of Sauna blog, you can find Kaurila Sauna cosmetic products and lace candles. I mainly deliver to Europe and North America. I also deliver to other parts of the world, so please get in touch with me if you are interested.

The best products for cleaning the sauna

18/07/2023

In the “Best products for cleaning the sauna” article, I share which ecological products you can use to make your sauna smell clean and fresh.

Cleaning the sauna and taking care of its condition is one of the most important things when you have bought, built or built a sauna for yourself. Unfortunately, you can spoil and quickly destroy even an expensive, high-quality sauna.

Nothing is as unpleasant as going to a sauna that smells bad. A foul smell indicates that humidity has started to attack the sauna benches.

A damp smell and dark spots on the surface or below the benches indicate that the sauna needs to be appropriately maintained.

Fortunately, there are a few ways to avoid this.

You should take care of the sauna every time you use the sauna. Dry the benches, ventilate the sauna to make it fresh and remember the rule of thumb: leave enough firewood in the wood stove or, if you use an electric sauna, leave the sauna on for 20 minutes when you’re done.

Cleaning the sauna should be done about 2-3 times a year.

Remember to clean the sauna with the right kind of substances.

In recent years, I have used various ecological alternatives, and yes, they can clean the sauna and sauna benches properly.

One detergent especially has made cleaning the sauna a pleasant chore.

EUCA detergent concentrate smells of wonderfully fresh eucalyptus. And what’s best: it cleans the benches, the sauna and washroom floor, and the shower tiles. You can use one detergent for all of these, and you don’t have to consider whether it’s unsafe.

Euca detergent concentrate is an ecological detergent that you can use for more than just washing the sauna. You can wash dishes, laundry, floors and even a car with it.

Euca is a concentrate that you add to water, so you don’t buy water with a bottle, just the good stuff.

Euca is ecological, refreshes and cleans, and removes odours and impurities.

Euca contains water, ethanol, eucalyptus essential oil and biodegradable surfactants.

Euca does not contain preservatives, mould inhibitors, dyes, zeolite or phosphates.

Euca’s pH is neutral, so, unfortunately, it does not remove limescale; for that, you need an acidic product, for example, vinegar or citric acid.

How to wash the sauna

You only need 30 ml of Euca detergent concentrate in a bucket of water (10 l). With the same detergent, you can wash the floors and the tiles in the shower room, i.e. all surfaces that can withstand water washing.

Do like this:

  • Move removable benches and stools out of the way.
  • Vacuum or brush the dust off the sauna’s floor, walls and ceiling.
  • Wet the wooden surfaces of the benches first with warm water to open the surface of the wood.
  • Make a detergent mixture in a bucket, i.e. 30 ml of Euca in 5-10 l of water.
  • Brush the benches with a soft brush, sponge, or sauna brush along the grain of the trees.
  • Finally, rinse the benches with cold water to seal the surface of the wood. You can rinse with warm water first.
  • Dry the benches with a dryer.
  • Wash and rinse the walls from the bottom up. It is not necessary to wash the walls every time; monitor the situation.
  • Also, remember to wash buckets, ladles, brushes and other sauna equipment.
  • Wash the floor drain and grate. Empty the hair and other debris from the floor drain.
  • Finally, wash the floor and dry it.
  • Ventilate the sauna.
  • Turn on the sauna for half an hour so that the sauna dries appropriately. At the same time, move the washed removable benches and the stool back to the sauna to dry.
  • You can also use Euca detergent concentrate for other household cleaning purposes, such as washing dishes, laundry, stain removal, washing floors, washing carpets, washing hotpots, bathrooms and toilets. You can also use Euca to wash your car, motorhome and caravan inside and outside.

Euca ekopesuaine

Euca eco detergent

What Euca eco detergent concentrate contains:

Water, Finnish ethanol, 5-15% non-ionic surfactants, anionic surfactants, and essential eucalyptus oil.

The function of the surfactant in the detergent is to loosen the dirt and, at the same time, prevent it from sticking back to the washed surface/laundry.

The pH of Euca eco-detergent is neutral.

Euca eco-detergent has three different surfactants with unique properties: one has been specially developed for laundry, cleans effectively, and leaves the laundry pleasantly soft.

The second effectively removes greasy dirt; the third is a surfactant developed for general, multi-purpose, and surface cleaning.

According to the detergent regulation (EC) No. 648/2004, all three surfactants are biodegradable.

There is good news: Euca eco-detergent is now on sale in my Sauna Shop. Euca Eco detergent 450 ml costs only €14.90. So you wash the sauna with this detergent 15 times!!

Buy now: Euca Eco detergent.

I hope this “The best products for sauna cleaning” article helped you when you were looking for information about detergents that are suitable for cleaning a sauna.

I wish you pleasant sauna cleaning moments; I promise the smell of your sauna will be lovely and fresh!
