What is a tent sauna?
In this article, I explain what a tent sauna is. Where can you set up a tent sauna? What is the “löyly” (Finnish for steam) like in a tent sauna? What is included in the equipment of a tent sauna?
What is a tent sauna?
In short, a tent sauna is a sauna in which you place a heater in a tent, heat the heater with wood or gas, heat the stones on the heater and thus generate heat in the tent.
A tent sauna can be used just like a normal sauna. Inside the tent there is a heater with stones on top. The stove is heated with wood. There are also benches in the tent where you can sit.
By pouring water on the hot stones, steam and heat are created, the Finns call it “löyly”. You can pour löyly as often as you like and use it to regulate the temperature and humidity of the air.
What is löyly like in a tent sauna?
Löyly in a tent sauna is considered gentle, pleasant and humid. The air is also very rich in oxygen. You can often stay longer in a tent sauna than in a dry and excessively hot sauna.
What material is the cover fabric of a tent sauna made of?
The outer fabric of a tent sauna is made of polyamide, which is treated to prevent mold and fire.
How quickly does a tent sauna heat up?
The time it takes for a tent sauna to heat up to 70 degrees depends on the air temperature outside. It can therefore take half an hour to an hour.
It is not advisable to heat the tent sauna to more than 75 degrees.
Where can I place a tent sauna?
You can set up a tent sauna on a campsite, by a river, by the lake, by the sea, in your own garden or on a terrace.
