In the article “How to use solid shampoo bars” I will tell you where shampoo bars are best stored and how solid shampoo bars are used correctly. I will share my best tips as well as my own experiences using different shampoo bars.
How to use solid shampoo bars?
It is essential to choose the right shampoo for your hair. First, wet your hair and then lather the shampoo between your wet hands. You can also lather the shampoo directly into the hair and scalp.
Using your hands, apply the lather to the hair and scalp so that the shampoo gets everywhere. If you want to enhance the active ingredients in the shampoo you can go to the sauna with a sauna hat or turban. You can stay in the sauna as long as you feel good.
Rinse your hair with plenty of water, making sure there is no shampoo left in your hair.
After rinsing, you can rinse your hair with a solution of vinegar, apple cider vinegar or lemon water. Making the solution is easy, just put a couple of tablespoons of vinegar, etc. in two deciliters of water.
Vinegar closes hair follicles and makes hair shiny and soft. Dyed hair especially benefits from vinegar rinsing. Vinegar treats and balances the Ph value of the scalp.
The vinegar water is not rinsed off but is left on the hair.
You can dry your hair with a hairdryer. However, do not over-dry your hair, but leave your hair a little damp.
Use of shampoo:
- Choose the right product for your hair type.
- Wet your hair.
- Lather soap either on your hands or directly on your hair and scalp.
- Rinse your hair.
- You can rinse your hair with a solution of vinegar, apple cider vinegar or lemon water.
- You do not need to rinse off the vinegar water.
- Leave your hair a little damp when you dry it.
How to Store a Shampoo Bar
Shampoo bars should be stored in a dry place. Soap racks in the shower are not a good place for storage because the shampoo bar does not dry properly. The shampoo stays moist and does not last long.
The shampoo also stays hygienic when you don’t store it in the shower.
The shampoo should be stored on a wooden tray or in a wooden soapbox. Always check that there is a hole or holes in the bottom of the tray/box so that the water drains out and the shampoo dries quickly.
A wooden tray or box is the best possible place to store shampoo. Wood is inherently an antibacterial and natural choice.
Be sure to rinse the shampoo off the foam before storing it.
The shampoo bar in the wooden box is convenient for travelling, and going to the swimming pool or spa.
With these tips, you will keep your shampoo long-lasting and hygienic.
Shampoo storage:
- Store in a dry place, the shower is not the best place.
- Rinse the foam off the shampoo bar.
- Make sure the shampoo is allowed to dry between uses.
- Store on a wooden base or in a wooden box with holes or a hole in the bottom.

My experiences with shampoo bars
I have naturally curly/flexible hair and it has been difficult to find the right product to suit my hair type.
At first, washing with shampoo bars felt awkward, and I was nervous because I have hair prone to tangling. Can I get my hair detangled or do I have to shave my hair off?
I have tried a few different shampoo bars in the past and felt like none of them worked with my hair. I had to rinse my hair with a vinegar-water solution to get it detangled after every wash.
The hair felt sticky and flat and the next day it was already greasy looking.
When washing with shampoo bars, it is important to make the shampoo lather properly.
There are two ways to do this: you can rub the moistened shampoo bar directly on the wet hair or you can rub the bar into your hands and then apply the lather to the hair.
I was afraid to lather my own hair very much because the danger is that I will never get my hair detangled. I just rubbed the shampoo lightly on my head and hair.
As I mentioned I haven’t tried very many shampoo bars. However, it seems that there was the same problem with every product.
Now I don’t have that problem and have found a product that works for me.
Is vinegar rinsing required?
After the first washes, I started to use a vinegar-water rinse and it worked well with my hair. You can also rinse your hair with a lemon or apple cider vinegar solution.
Personally, I have been using vinegar for years. At some point, I had to soak my hair in vinegar to get the green tinge out of my blonde hair. Vinegar makes hair wonderfully soft, the only problem is that smell.
However, the problem only occurs when it rains, when dry the vinegar does not stink.
After a few times, I left out the vinegar rinses. And, it worked fine! I was able to brush through my hair without problems. And this is quite a miracle because I’ve had to use excessive amounts of conditioner in the past to keep my hair from getting tangled.
Although the product is not officially suitable for the curly girl method, these products can help you get your own natural curls/flexibility back.
